Many will be familiar with Eastbourne and the many delights on offer, but it’s historic neighbour Bexhill, is increasingly finding its way onto tourists’ radar.

Finding itself as spoils from William the Conqueror’s famous victory just up the road at Battle, the town later became a hotbed for smuggling in the early 19th century and took full advantage of the Victorian appreciation for seaside revitalisation, with the esplanade being constructed.

Bexhill seafrontThe pebble beach stretches for a couple of glorious miles, with opportunities for rock-pooling at low tide and traditional seaside entertainment with beach huts for hire and cafes for ice creams.

Visit the historic Colonnade just below the Pavilion, with its tea shop and kiosks to pick up a few trinkets.

Across the road is Bexhill town centre with friendly cafes and quirky independent shops where you can pick up a vintage bargain or some local art.

Seafront from apartment in BexhillLook out for the farmers’ market in Devonshire Square selling fresh, local produce.

Bexhill Museum, set in Egerton Park, in only a 10-minute walk and is full of family friendly exhibits including the cars that made Bexhill the home of British Motor Racing.

For accommodation in Bexhill, we’ve taken on the spacious Stone Haven Apartment, set in a glorious seafront Grade II-listed apartment building – the 3-bedroom holiday rental is in the perfect location in Bexhill – literally on the seafront, 5 minutes from the unmissable De La Warr Pavilion (contemporary art centre with a smashing cafe for lunch) and train station and moment from the cafes and rock pooling.
