Is it too early to talk about Christmas?

Christmas sees Eastbourne take things to another level when it comes to festive fun.

Enjoy Christmas in Eastbourne

Well, Halloween is already just a distant memory, bonfire night is well and truly over, and the 2023 John Lewis Xmas ad (genius or just plain terrible?) is out, so we think not.

Eastbourne, with its pretty fairy lights along the seafront and Summer-long excuses to have weekly fireworks (Check out Eastbourne Bandstand) always feels like a festive, fun place to be. Somewhere that you can leave the realities of everyday life behind and just relax.

Xmas sees Eastbourne take things to another level when it comes to festive fun.

Christmas dates for your diary

First up, the Christmas lights switch will take place on Saturday 25th November. With an interactive LED Christmas tree at Banker Corner PLUS three, 20ft trees in the Beacon Centre, as well as a live music stage, stalls and street food (including mulled wine of course) your Xmas spirit will be off to a flying start.

1 December will see the return of Little Chelsea’s annual Christmas festivities with stalls all along Grove Road, (known for its plethora of independent artisan bars and restaurants) culminating in a firework display (of course!)

If you’re looking for something a little bit different, then Eastbourne Victorian Market (7-10 December) will feature 30+ stalls with a live music stage, carol singers, circus acts and a Christmas parade. With all vendors dressed in traditional Victorian – Steampunk, it’s a picture postcard worthy event.

Get yourself in the festive mood

Xmas wouldn’t be Xmas without the opportunity to do your best Torville and Dean impression. The Eastbourne Lighting Fibre Ice Rink will be open for business from 9-31 December 10am – 10pm by the Enterprise Centre with a bar, street food, a DJ and a heated marquee seating area – perfect for a mulled wine and sit down to recover from your efforts.

If you’re brave enough, kick off New Year’s Day with a mass sea dip – a yearly activity organised by Fish2Water that just gets more and more popular.

Alternatively, if you fancy a more genteel way to see in Christmas/New Year don’t miss out on listening to the Eastbourne Silver Band who will be playing a medley of Christmas carols at Eastbourne’s historic bandstand on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

It’s enough to warm the cockles of your heart. (And if it’s not enough, then a sneaky sloe gin in the old hipflask will certainly do the job).
